In the Argentine Andes, a girl survives a miraculous fall and is granted healing powers; a shrine and a gold-rich city grow around her. When the sadistic usurper Ruiz seizes the town and closes the shrine, the charismatic outlaw known as the Gaucho rides in to reclaim it, only to confront a padre, a mountain girl, and a spiritual reckoning darker than Fairbanks's usual boyish adventures.
Fairbanks with a whip and a darker script: a shrine, a usurper, and a reckoning the boyish pictures had not asked for. The bolas and the horse work are the scale. The cost is that the hero has to be humbled, and Fairbanks, for once, lets him.
